Silver Wolf Midstream to transport gas from Michigan to the Great Lakes

Silver Wolf Midstream has unveiled plans to repurpose an existing 225-mile natural gas pipeline to transport propane gas throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region.

The Michigan Express Pipeline runs from Michigan’s largest propane storage facility in Marysville to a terminal in Kalkaska. The Michigan Express Pipeline is expected to be in service by the end of 2020 with the existing terminal and is capable of transporting 500,000 to 1 million gallons of propane per day from central to upper Michigan once at full capacity.

The pipeline is scheduled to be at full capacity by Fall 2021.

By using the Michigan Express Pipeline to transport propane within Michigan, Silver Wolf Midstream will be able to reduce the risk of a propane shortage due to extended outages. It also provides a safer and more cost-effective solution to the Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline, which currently delivers more than half of Michigan’s propane supply and is in the process of building a tunnel to transport propane.

According to the Michigan Propane Gas Association, Michigan ranks first in the country in residential use of propane with 367,162,000 gallons consumed per year. Michigan ranks second in the U.S. in overall propane consumption and third in propane fueled vehicles.

Silver Wolf Midstream has engaged Boustead Securities, LLC and Winston & Strawn, LLP for the Michigan Express Pipeline project.
