Kent confirms enhanced project alliances with ExxonMobil and Repsol Norge
Kent has announced significant involvement in ExxonMobil’s £800m investment in its Fawley Petrochemical complex. The confirmation came as the integrated energy services provider announced it had also been awarded a comprehensive three-year framework contract with Repsol Norge for various operations in the North Sea Norwegian Sector.
Kent said its involvement in the Fawley Petrochemical complex - scheduled for completion next year - represented a key project for the company and alliance partners Taylor Woodrow and BGEN.
Company applies expertise
Kent’s responsibilities include project management, engineering and procurement, module fabrication and logistics, as well as completions and commissioning.
The project was awarded to the alliance in March 2022 and - in addition to the construction, completion, and commissioning of a new diesel hydrotreater and a steam methane reforming hydrogen plant - it will execute associated foundations, equipment, pipework, electrical, and instrumentation.
Iain Eddie, Kent’s EVP Operations for EMEA, said the project showcased the “strength of collaboration and depth of expertise” within the alliance.
Reducing UK import pressure
He commented: “We are honoured to contribute to this important investment by ExxonMobil, which not only aligns with the UK’s energy resilience goals but also underscores Kent’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions on a global scale.”
Enabling the production of low-sulphur diesel in compliance with 2025 Euro 7 emissions standards is the primary objective of the ambitious Fawley project.
The resultant upgrade is expected to increase production by 40%, reducing imports to the UK by around 25%.
Norwegian partnership blossoms
In the North Sea, Kent’s confirmed framework contract with Repsol Norge encompasses a wide range of critical services. These include studies, specialist engineering support, EPCI (engineering, procurement, construction, and installation) packages, and the provision of structural integrity and analysis services.
Kent says its 40-plus years of knowledge and expertise in providing “top-notch structural integrity services”, across numerous offshore assets, positions the company to enhance service delivery for Repsol Norge, underscoring a long-standing partnership in which it has delivered continuous structural integrity management support.
Les Newman, Kent’s Managing Director of Engineering & Consulting, UK, said the contract “not only exemplifies our leading-edge capabilities in the offshore engineering domain but also strengthens our enduring relationship with Repsol Norge and its assets for over 20 years”.
