Large scale wind farms on the US coast line
The United States announced an "ambitious" plan to develop major offshore wind farms on the east and west coasts and in the Gulf of Mexico; in a first of its kind long-term strategy to produce electricity from offshore turbines.
"interior department is laying out an ambitious road map as we advance the administration’s plans to confront climate change, create good-paying jobs and accelerate the nation’s transition to a cleaner energy future,” said Deb Haaland, the interior secretary while speaking at a wind power industry conference in Boston.
“This timetable provides two crucial ingredients for success: increased certainty and transparency. Together, we will meet our clean energy goals while addressing the needs of other ocean users and potentially impacted communities," added Haaland.
The announcement came months after US approved the first commercial offshore wind farm off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts which made the government review other potential offshore wind farms.
The Biden administration has pledged to cut the fossil fuel emissions by halve from 2005 levels by 2030 in the United States through policies that promote using cleaner energy.
