The collaboration between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy has also expanded into the realm of decarbonization

Baker Hughes, a leading energy technology company, announced on Friday that it has entered into a new 10-year services frame agreement with Woodside Energy. This partnership aims to bolster Woodside Energy's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) operations in Australia.

Under this extensive agreement, Baker Hughes will provide a range of services including spare parts and field service resources, ensuring the availability of critical components and technical expertise for onsite turbomachinery. Additionally, the agreement covers equipment maintenance and upgrades, conducting regular maintenance and implementing upgrades to enhance operational efficiency. It also includes equipment refurbishment to restore existing machinery to optimal condition, and advanced digital asset performance services utilising cutting-edge digital solutions to monitor and improve asset performance.

Commitment to innovation and decarbonization

This latest agreement strengthens a long-standing strategic partnership between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy that began in 1989. Over the decades, the two companies have collaborated on numerous projects, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing the LNG sector. In 2021, Baker Hughes was selected to supply high-efficiency gas turbine and compressor technology for Woodside Energy’s Pluto LNG Train 2 project in Western Australia. This project, integral to Woodside Energy’s Scarborough offshore gas project, facilitates LNG exports to countries across Asia.

The collaboration between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy has also expanded into the realm of decarbonisation. In 2022, they signed a memorandum of understanding to explore potential decarbonising solutions, leveraging Baker Hughes' extensive portfolio of carbon management and climate technology solutions.

Tiffany Pitts, Vice President of Gas Technology Services, IET at Baker Hughes, emphasised the importance of this partnership in a statement: “Given the essential role of LNG in supporting global energy security with affordable and reliable natural gas supplies, we recognise the criticality of providing ongoing innovations and enhancements to LNG technology solutions for Woodside Energy. The stability of LNG must be met with a commitment to proactively advance safety and efficiency, while investing in asset health management to drive more intelligent operations. We are proud to support Woodside Energy and look forward to progressing our fruitful collaboration well into the future.”

The new services frame agreement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy. It underscores a mutual dedication to advancing the LNG sector through technological innovation, efficiency improvements, and a commitment to sustainable practices. This partnership not only enhances the operational capabilities of Woodside Energy but also contributes to the broader goal of ensuring a stable and secure energy supply on a global scale.
