Saudi Aramco and Almar Water Solutions partner to bring water treatment solutions to the Kingdom
Almar Water Solutions and Al Jomaih Energy and Water Co. (AEW) will develop a water project with Saudi Aramco, which consists of a water treatment plant with a 185,000 m3/day capacity in support of water injection for the Zuluf Onshore Oil Facilities project, located in the Arabian Gulf, 240 km north of Dhahran.
The contract was signed last December but the financial closing happened in mid of March, 2023. The project, which will be developed under a 25-year BOOT (build, own, operate, and transfer) scheme, includes the design, development, financing, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance, and transfer of ownership.
Almar Water Solutions is fully committed to the local communities where it operates, and is aligned with IKTVA requirements, by employing local workers, procuring local services, and contributing to the economic and social development of the region.
Following the award of the contract, Carlos Cosín, CEO of Almar Water Solutions, noted: "Water is indispensable for the economic and industrial activities of any country. We are fully committed to water supply and treatment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and this new plant will support the sustainability of the Zuluf project. We're very pleased to continue collaborating with leading companies such as Saudi Aramco and to further expand our know-how in the region."
For the execution and O&M of the plant, Almar Water Solutions will work with a consortium of companies formed by Al Jomaih Energy and Water Co. (AEW), Fisia Italimpianti and Aquatech International.
The Zuluf project is part of Almar Water Solutions' long-term growth plan in Saudi Arabia. Together with Shuqaiq 3, its water treatment capacity will reach a total of 635,000 m3/day, making it one of the key players in the Kingdom’s water market.
