Nesma & Partners: advancing energy solutions for a sustainable future
As Saudi Arabia drives its Vision 2030 transformation, Nesma & Partners has emerged as a key player in shaping the energy landscape, offering innovative, sustainable solutions to some of the region’s most complex challenges. At ADIPEC 2024, the company showcases its recent achievements and strategic vision to fast-track the energy transition in alignment with the theme of ‘Decarbonising Faster Together.’
In an exclusive interview with ADIPEC News, Samer Abdul Samad, President & CEO of Nesma & Partners, shares the company’s latest developments and its role in advancing sustainable energy solutions across the Kingdom and beyond.
Nesma’s strategic milestones in energy sector innovation
Over the past year, Nesma & Partners has achieved significant milestones in the energy sector, strengthening its role as a leader in conventional and renewable energy projects. One of the most notable achievements was the strategic acquisition of Kent, a global energy engineering and project management leader. “This acquisition expands our capabilities across the entire energy value chain, particularly in the fields of low-carbon and renewable energy, and positions us as a key player in the global energy market,” explains Mr. Abdul Samad.
Furthermore, Nesma & Partners has been integral to several critical projects for Saudi Aramco, including two Master Gas projects involving the construction of over 500 kilometres of gas pipelines. These projects support the Kingdom’s broader energy infrastructure development and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification agenda.
"We have taken significant steps to integrate hybrid solar systems and other renewable technologies in our projects, particularly at NEOM. These innovations are aligned with our commitment to reducing emissions and promoting resource efficiency" - Samer Abdul Samad, President & CEO of Nesma & Partners
Commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation
With the world’s energy systems undergoing rapid transformation, Nesma & Partners has placed sustainability at the core of its operations. “We have taken significant steps to integrate hybrid solar systems and other renewable technologies in our projects, particularly at NEOM. These innovations are aligned with our commitment to reducing emissions and promoting resource efficiency,” adds Mr. Abdul Samad.
Nesma & Partners has significantly reduced carbon emissions by adopting alternative energy sources, including solar farms and hybrid power systems, and employing efficient water and energy management strategies. One key initiative demonstrating this commitment is installing a hybrid solar system at the NEOM Connector project campsite, combining solar energy with diesel generators, which met 20% of the energy demand. This cutting-edge technology combines solar power with other renewable sources, setting a precedent for sustainable energy solutions in future project campsites.
The company has reported environmental data for 22 projects to measure the impact of decarbonisation, combining 10 ongoing and 12 new initiatives. The reporting focused on emissions, water, and waste to enhance insights and control impacts aligned with carbon emissions targets. Additionally, Nesma & Partners’ decarbonisation strategy is evaluated through key metrics, including measuring carbon emissions reductions from renewable energy, assessing energy output from efficient designs and reduced fossil fuel use, and tracking potable water and energy savings from desalination.
Nesma & Partner’s safety-first approach has also seen the company achieve over 125 million safe man-hours this year across multiple projects, further underscoring its dedication to excellence and environmental responsibility.
Pioneering local talent development
Nesma & Partners is also deeply committed to developing local talent through initiatives such as the Nesma High Training Institute (NHTI), which has graduated over 5,700 Saudi nationals from its vocational training programs and provided over 54,000 training opportunities through various training programs. “We see this as an essential part of empowering the next generation of talents who will drive the future of Saudi Arabia’s energy sector,” says Mr. Abdul Samad.
In late 2022, the institute expanded its operations by opening a new branch at NEOM, symbolising Nesma & Partners' ongoing investment in local talent development and innovation. These programs ensure that the company is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the energy sector.
Looking ahead: leader in energy transition
As ADIPEC 2024 spotlights decarbonisation and sustainable energy systems, Nesma & Partners is proud to be part of this transformation. The company continues to expand its portfolio of sustainable energy solutions. It aims to have a bigger footprint in hydrogen and carbon capture-related initiatives and the advancement of digitalisation in energy infrastructure.
“We believe the future of energy lies in the convergence of sustainability, innovation, and collaboration. Nesma & Partners remains fully committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet today’s challenges while preparing for tomorrow's energy systems,” concludes Mr. Abdul Samad.
As one of the leading players in the region’s energy sector, Nesma & Partners is setting new benchmarks in excellence. It demonstrates that the energy transition can be accelerated for a more sustainable future with the right partnerships, innovation, and vision.
