ADIPEC is continuously expanding as a prominent industry event that addresses crucial themes and topics vital for advancing our industry. With this year’s focus on securing affordable and clean energy solutions, companies like Baker Hughes can play a significant role in driving the balance and momentum required to address the energy trilemma of security, availability, and sustainability.

It’s evident that hydrocarbons will remain a part of the energy mix, making them essential for achieving energy security and availability. Hence, the first pillar focuses on leveraging existing technologies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and emission reduction in the sector. This encompasses solutions like remote operations and AI, which have been proven effective. Major regional NOCs such as ADNOC are expanding their production capacity, and these established technologies can help them achieve their targets.

However, given the industry’s changing landscape and the pressing challenges of climate change, driving innovation becomes imperative to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and facilitate the energy transition. Hence, the second pillar focuses on investing in and deploying technologies like hydrogen, CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation, and storage), emissions management, and geothermal energy.

These solutions will contribute to energy availability and sustainability, hence tackling climate change. ADIPEC can serve as a platform for shaping discussions leading up to COP28, where the role of these technologies can be highlighted. To highlight its importance, we’re seeing ADIPEC focus one of the conference streams on hydrogen, and an exhibition space focusing on decarbonisation.

Baker Hughes plays a significant role in both these pillars. Through our oilfield, industrial, and energy technologies, we ensure efficient project execution, peak asset performance, and advancements towards net-zero and a sustainable energy future.

When we consider these key pillars, certain themes emerge. The UAE is a global industrial and economic hub. There is no reason why we cannot localise technologies and solutions here in the UAE to serve the world. It possesses the vision, leadership, talent, inclusive culture, and resources to localise technologies and solutions that can benefit the world. The UAE is an attractive market for investment, enabling the strengthening of the local supply chain through vendor support, exports, and job creation. To further support localisation initiatives, we’re seeing a dedicated stream of the conference focusing on manufacturing and industrialisation.

The second theme is collaboration. All stakeholders, including technology providers like Baker Hughes, IOCs, NOCs, policymakers, and service providers, share the common objective of achieving net-zero by 2050. Thus, collective effort is necessary to make this vision a reality. Partnership and collaboration have always been foundational in our industry, and they are even more critical now.

We view ADIPEC as a platform to drive dialogue and collaboration around the energy trilemma, emphasising both existing technologies and innovative solutions, that can help solve energy availability, security, and sustainability. Baker Hughes, alongside other industry stakeholders, is committed to realising these goals, recognising the UAE’s potential and the importance of collaboration to achieve a sustainable energy future.
