Striking the balance between energy security and transition
In an exclusive studio interview at EGYPES 2025, Chiranjib Sengupta spoke to Osama Mobarez, Secretary General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), to discuss the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean basin as a fast-growing energy hub, and how EMGF is supporting the region’s roadmap to build a secure and sustainable energy sector. He spoke about why collaboration is critical for progress on the energy transition, and underscored the need to be more realistic and strike the right balance between energy security and the pace of the transition. The Secretary General also highlighted the role of natural gas as a key transition fuel for the global energy system, and why diversification and decarbonisation of the energy mix is essential for the future of the industry.
