Emission reduction, especially greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, is the challenge of the century – and it’s crucial in the maritime and logistics industry. Global maritime and shipping enable 80-90% of trade but account for 70% of shipping emissions. With bulk and container carriers and oil tankers making up 20% of the fleet, the sector would be the 6th or 7th largest CO2 emitter if it were a country.
Decarbonising this sector requires effective policies and cross-sector strategies. Key actions include meeting Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standards, retrofitting existing ships with energy-saving technologies, adopting low-carbon fuels, upgrading engines, and implementing electric solutions.
Energy Connects hosted the Maritime & Logistics Webinar ahead of ADIPEC 2024, where industry experts from Milaha, NMDC Group, and ZMI Holdings engaged in discussions. Participants explored global strategies and discussed the next steps toward decarbonising the sector, achieving net-zero, and shaping the future of supply chains.
